TL;DR Nginx
CloudSonic runs Nginx mainline on every server, configured with Brotli compression, FastCGI caching, rate limiting, and Cloudflare real IP passthrough out of the box.
Nginx is a high performance open source web server and reverse proxy that handles all incoming HTTP requests on every CloudSonic server. It serves static files directly from disk at high speed, manages the FastCGI cache that serves cached pages without any PHP processing, and passes dynamic requests to PHP-FPM. Nginx on CloudSonic is configured with Brotli compression, rate limiting, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 support, and Cloudflare real IP passthrough out of the box.
Nginx as the Web Server on CloudSonic
CloudSonic runs Nginx mainline sourced directly from nginx.org rather than the older version bundled with Ubuntu, ensuring you always have access to the latest stable features and security patches. Nginx on CloudSonic is configured with Brotli compression alongside gzip as a fallback, FastCGI caching sized to available server RAM at 15 percent, rate limiting zones for general traffic and login endpoints, HTTP/2 and HTTP/3 support via Cloudflare Enterprise, OCSP stapling, and Cloudflare real IP passthrough so your access logs always show genuine visitor IP addresses rather than Cloudflare proxy IPs. Nginx connects to PHP-FPM via a Unix socket rather than a TCP port for lower latency and higher throughput on every PHP request.
